FAQs

  • All students attend lessons once a week.

  • Jitterbugs classes are 30 minutes. Beebopper classes and Pianorama Classes are 45 minutes.

As the children progress into the Extension Pianorama program, lessons are 60 minutes.

  • Parents/Carers do need to attend Jitterbugs, Beeboppers and Pianorama Kindy classes.

We encourage parents with children from 5 years to attend so we can be confident you know what’s being learnt in the music classes, so you can assist at home. It’s also a great time with your child!

  • Anytime of the year for our Jitterbugs and Beeboppers. Term 1, 2 and 3 for our Pianorama classes.

We are always happy to welcome new students to the ISM Studio family. Once enrolled, we’ll keep you enrolled until you tell us you need to pause or withdraw. No need to constantly fill our enrolment forms. We want to keep things easy and convenient for you.

  • Weekday Morning Classes: Jitterbugs, Beeboppers, Pianorama Kindy – siblings are welcome.

Afternoon and Saturday morning: Pianorama - due to the nature of the course, we unfortunately cannot allow siblings in the classroom.

  • It’s super easy!

  • At ISM our year runs from February to December, 40 weeks of classes with breaks over the school holidays. To get the most from our programs and guarantee their place is held in a class we recommend staying enrolled throughout the year. This gives children a chance to build relationships with fellow students, learn and build on musical concepts and really immerse themselves into the program, grow and learn.

  • We specialise in our group Pianorama Musicianship Programme. Private lessons are only offered to our extension graduates.

  • Group classes have a maximum of 10 students. We generally do not start new classes with less than 5 or 6 student to ensure the best group dynamics.

  • In Jitterbugs and Beeboppers no instrument is required at home. If starting Pianorama the answer is simply YES!

Your child will be excited after the first Pianorama lesson and want to rush home to practice. It is important to have your piano set up in the home ready.

If you have a piano that is fantastic.  If not, children are able to play on a digital piano or electronic keyboard during the early years. Australian Piano Warehouse in North Perth have an extensive range of keyboards, digital pianos and acoustic pianos. Staff are very knowledgeable on latest models and features on all instruments and would be able to help guide you with what to purchase. It’s a really good starting point if you are wanting to buy new or second hand. Well worth having a visit.

  • Graduates of the Pianorama course are offered the opportunity to enrol in private piano lessons.

  • It’s very hard to know if our program is right with just one class. Children take time to adjust to a new experience and need to feel safe and secure in their environment.

  • These classes are all about giving all-round musicianship skills to students to last a lifetime, rather than just the ability to read notes. Our group music and piano classes encourage the children in all styles of music, and in the more advanced courses the children even begin basic composition exercises. All children sing as part of the course work, something that usually doesn’t happen during individual lessons. Singing develops the students’ sense of pitch, musicality and melodic memory. All of these are fantastic skills to have as a musician and will last your child a lifetime. Most of all, these courses are about music learning through having fun: group games and learning will motivate and create a sense of fun and engagement for your child, which in turn will help your child stick with and achieve musical skills. A child can lose interest when they learn in a solitary environment.
